Cultural Centre "Sigulda Devon"

The cultural centre “Sigulda Devon” is a multifunctional cultural and arts space that offers visitors a vast programme of professional culture – art exhibitions, theatrical performances, concerts and film impressions. Throughout the year, the cultural Centre organizes various art performances, concerts and events for the whole family also in the Sigulda urban environment. “Sigulda Devon” is also home to 16 am amateur arts collectives – diverse generations of dance collectives, choirs, vocal ensembles, applied studio participants, Puteji Orchestra, theater studio, bigbend and folklore group. Seniors from the county also gather here for various activities.

The cultural centre “Sigulda Devon” opened on September 14, 2018 following an ambitious redevelopment. The building is named after a period that has temporarily recorded magic code in Gauja sandstone layers from a time when the Sigulda neighborhood was covered in waters.

The design of the “Sigulda Devon” facade uses decorative panels, which are printed by a visible sandstone outcrop pattern from the Velnala cliffs, where the Devon fish and flora fossils are most abundantly preserved. The characteristics of the Devon period have also given names to the medicinal products of the cultural Centre: Radix (Great Hall, Latin – Root), Silva (small Hall, Latin – Forest) and Digiti (film Hall, Latin – fingers). The drug names are reminiscent of developments in the Devon era that have had a significant impact on global evolution.
